Belgian Designer Raf Simons Taking Over as Director at Christian Dior

Belgian designer Raf Simons takes over as artistic director at Christian Dior, the Paris fashion house announced on Monday, ending months of speculation over who does replace his disgraced predecessor, John Galliano.

The very best design post at Dior, parents company of luxury conglomerate LVMH, may be vacant for over a year after Galliano was fired after having a drunken anti-Semitic outburst in Paris.

Simons, who previously worked for fashion house Jil Sander and is also known for his understated looks, was long considered an unlikely candidate as Dior conducted exploratory talks with increased high-profile rivals including Marc Jacobs, head designer at Lv, to Alber Elbaz of Lanvin.

In the statement, the 44-year-old Belgian paid homage towards the history of Dior and said he'd present his first High fashion collection for Dior in July 2012.
"It is by using the utmost respect because of its tremendous history, its unparalleled knowledge and craftsmanship that i'm joining the magnificent house of Dior," he explained.

For the past year, Dior Leader Sidney Toledano has faced constant questioning about succession for Galliano after his shock ouster from your brand a year ago, to which he always responded by saying Dior would take it's once again time.
In the absence of Galliano - who apologized for his outburst during the early 2011 and it has yet to resurface inside a new position - his former aide Bill Gaytten had become the Dior's artistic director and presented several pret-a-porter and High fashion collections.

But Gaytten's work was the target of criticism popular circles for lacking his predecessor's flair, and Dior never hid its aim of filling the most notable position having a designer of equal or greater stature to Galliano.
Simons created a strong international reputation at Jil Sander, that is majority of the Prada Group, earning credit to get a trend toward bright colors that permeated more modestly priced markets.

"I'm somebody who takes responsibility," Simons told the newest York Times, which first reported his hiring. "I'm no isolated person. The greater I connect with people, the harder I have the impression that things work."
